We just bought a farm. We're city people, living in Portland, Oregon, and have had a desire for a while to find that little piece of land that we could cultivate and make our own. Something sustainable, lush, and private...a place where we can escape.

A case for double hung INSULATED windows
When ice forms on the INSIDE of your single pane windows, maybe those replacement windows make more sense? Sometimes you have to learn the hard way.
can you get storm windows for those? That's what my New England friends with single pane windows do. They put them up in the fall and take them down in spring again. Kind of a big hassle, but they do have nice windows, and also warm houses!
We ordered storm windows for the attic and are tackling the house one floor at a time, but a part of me longs for the beauty of a clean, new, double paned window. It absolutely doesn't make sense for a house this size, though. So yes, I agree with the storms. I'm also surprised how complicated it was to measure for a wood storm.
